The Central Electric Cooperative Operation Round Up board recently approved a $2,000 grant to the Stillwater Parent Teacher Association Council to purchase Go Create Reflections Toolkits for underserved kids and youth as part of the PTA Reflections program.
PTA Reflections is a nationwide arts program/competition that encourages students in preschool through 12th grade to create and submit original works in the areas of visual arts, photography, literature, music composition, film production and dance choreography. Students participate through their local school’s PTA organization. The program’s theme for the coming year is “Heroes Around Me.”
Within the Stillwater Public Schools system, the five major elementary schools as well as students from Stillwater Middle School, Junior High and High School participate in the program every year. The Stillwater PTA Council plans to use the Operation Round Up grant to provide Go Create Reflections Toolkits to underserved kids and youth in local schools who do not have access to art supplies and materials at home. These students will be identified by working with each school’s principal and guidance counselor.
After the program kicked off in schools in early September, students have until the end of October to complete their entries. Judging occurs in November, and the district-wide award ceremony to recognize students who will advance to the state round of competition will be held in early December before Christmas break. For more information about the program, visit http://okpta.org/news/arts-in-education-reflections/ or contact your local school.
Central Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up® (previously the Community Foundation of Central Electric Cooperative) is a charitable organization that distributes funds to individuals and organizations throughout the communities within Central’s service area. Independent of Central Electric Cooperative, the Operation Round Up board administers the program, making grants available from money donated by Central members who choose to round up their electric bill to the nearest dollar.
