Information About Delinquent Accounts

CREC is a nonprofit electric cooperative owned by the members who belong and purchase its power. While your cooperative is serious about collecting past due accounts, we also want to avoid disconnecting any of our members' electricity.

To avoid disconnection of electric service, please stay in touch with our member services department. When you first receive your bill and realize you will not be able to pay it in full by the penalty date, please call the Member Services Department immediately. Our representatives will be able to assist you with making payment arrangements. If you are unable to pay the bill in full within 28 days a disconnect notice will be mailed and your account will be subject to disconnection the following week. Our Member Services Department will make payment arrangements through the week your account is scheduled for disconnection but are not allowed to extend or accept payment arrangements beyond that week.

If disconnection of your electric service presents a life threatening condition, a Medical Certificate Form will be provided to you. It must be signed by your physician and detail the medical necessity for electricity. It will extend your disconnect date 30 days from the date the Medical Certificate is mailed, faxed or handed to you. After the additional 30 days, the past due balance must be paid to avoid service disconnection.

If your electric service has been disconnected for nonpayment, to be reconnected, you must pay the past due balance plus any collection fees at our office, area banks, over the telephone or online. There is a $50.00 disconnection fee, a $50.00 reconnection fee before 3 p.m. and a $100.00 reconnection fee from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. An additional deposit may also be required for reconnection of service. If we are notified of payment before 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday evenings, your service will be reconnected that night. Payment or payment notification must be received before 8 p.m. for same day reconnection. Service will not be reconnected Fridays after 3 p.m., weekends or holidays.

CREC offers several convenient ways to pay your electric bill. For a complete listing of payment locations and options, please refer to the Billing Section under Payment Locations and Ways to Pay. If your account is subject to disconnect and you make a payment at a location other than the CREC office in Stillwater, you must call the CREC office to notify us of your payment.

There are several agencies in our service area you may contact for assistance with utility bills.
